$129,000 000 Bill to be presented to the Catholic Church
PRESS RELEASE Monday 21st July 2008
A bill will be presented to the Catholic Church on Monday 21st July, 2pm at St Mary's Cathedral, Hyde Park
"Our peaceful rally on Saturday July 19th against Pope Benedict's anti-condom policies was a huge success", noted Rachel Evans, a Coalition spokesperson. "2000 people turned out to say Pope Benedict's homophobia and anti-woman positions were archaic."
"We're asking the Church to deposit the money into the NoToPope Coalition bank account, and then the funds will be distributed to public housing projects for the homeless and refugees," said Kristian Bolwell, Coalition spokesperson. "Funds will also be allocated to projects to combat bigotry and racism in high-schools and queer youth suicide. Money will be put towards non moralistic, scientific safe-sex programs that aim to decrease HIV and STI rates among young people."
"NoToPope Coalition was shocked to hear that four African Pilgrims were thrown in Villawood Detention Centre," added Evans. "We welcomed the Pilgrims to Australia, and thought the Australian government would show compassion during WYD. We will visit these Pilgrims, offer solidarity and demand the government release these Pilgrims from Villawood, an inhumane detention centre."
The Bill will be presented Monday 21st July St Mary's Cathedral, Hyde Park 2pm
